Harundale Presbyterian Church serves a hot lunch every Monday and Thursday from 12:30 to 1:30 and every Saturday from 11:30 to 12:30 in our Fellowship Hall. Everyone is welcome to the meals. There are no restrictions or requirements. In 2019, we served over 5,000 meals including Thanksgiving, which was a blessing to our guests.
Each day has its own group of volunteers who cook, do dishes, set up, serve, clean up, and make all our guests feel welcome. You, too, can be a part of this on-going mission. Just let a Mission Committee member know that you are willing to help during the week or sign up for a Saturday slot on the bulletin board. The Free Lunch Program partners with Woods Memorial Presbyterian Church from Severna Park. Woods provides and serves the meals one Monday, Thursday and Saturday each month in our HPC facilities.
HPC FOOD PANTRY
In 2019, we provided groceries to 1031 families, representing 2820 persons in need of assistance. This ministry grew out of the need seen during our Free Lunch Program. Groceries for our Food Pantry are donated by our congregation, area grocery stores and restaurants, various Boy Scout and community food drives in our area, and the Maryland Food Bank. You can place your grocery donations in the green box right outside the Sanctuary door. There are “Food of the Month” signs that indicate a particular need or you can bring any non-perishable foods or supplies that you would like to donate.
HPC Food Pantry is open for distribution of groceries every Tuesday from 12:30 to 1:30 in the Fellowship Hall. Families and individuals are eligible to receive groceries once a month. Eligibility requirements are: confirmation of address in Anne Arundel County (such as a current piece of mail), photo I.D. for the person picking up the groceries, and a Social Security card or birth certificate for everyone else in the household. To work hands-on with this mission project with distribution or collection pick-up, contact Jeff & Marla Kollar, Mission Committee members or the church office.
In partnership with the Maryland Food Bank, Food Link and area churches, HPC hosts quarterly fresh food “drops” for those in need. We unload a semi truck full of fresh produce into our Fellowship Hall. Hundreds of families in need take home approximately 75 pounds of produce each.
Our Feed the Hungry program at HPC collaborates with Arundel House of Hope and other churches in the area annually supporting the Winter Relief Shelter. In 2019 we provided food, shelter and transportation for 38 guests each night during a full week in February. You can help by signing up to help drive, cook, serve meals or spend the night this year. Watch for the opportunities and for information in the Sunday bulletin, the Spire and Minutes for Mission during worship and for sign-up sheets on hallway bulletin boards. HPC is grateful to be connected with this invaluable mission to the homeless in our county and to be able to fulfill their needs for one week during the winter.
